Great Start to the Season for Leinster Juniors
There was a great start to the Junior table tennis season at Palmerstown on Sunday, September 18th. With over 90 entries there was a very healthy turn-out; one which we want to build on during the season.
The morning session started with nearly 30 boys in the Junior event and a strong field with many national squad players involved. I’m sure they found it a great warm up for the national classification on September 24th. Old friendships and rivalries were renewed after the summer break and a lot of fun was had by all. Lorca O'Hannrachain, Dun Laoire TTC, had some notable wins on his way to 3rd place, while Art Mc Loughlin, Griffeen Valley TTC, pushed Conor Gallagher, Dublin TTC, all the way in the final; Conor edging it 3-2 in a tense final set. Thanks to all the juniors for participating and making this a strong opener to the season.
Katie Hayes, Laois TTC, and Mia O'Rahilly Egan, Griffeen Valley TTC, had a great tussle in the U-18 girls with Katie having the better of it in the group stage but Mia coming back to take the final strongly in the end. Nga Nguyen, Dun Laoire TTC, won 3rd place.
The U-13 boys saw a great final between Gellert Moravscik, Carlow TTC, and Mattiu Heckmann, Dublin TTC, which was well attended in the hall. Mattiu edged it on this occasion, but I am sure many more great matches are to come from these two. Timothy Mullaney won the plaque for 3rd place.
Pravesha Ragi, Pingzone, had a great day picking up first place in the U-13 girls and 2nd place in U-15 girls. Lela Lacap, Dun Laoire TTC, and Anna Gellert, Griffeen Valley TTC, came 2nd and 3rd respectively in the U-13 girls. Mia O'Rahilly Egan won the U-15 girls, with Srujana Ragi, Pingzone, finishing 3rd. Congratulations to Mia on her double win. It’s great to see our national champions inspiring the next generation in the Leinster events.
In the cadet boys, Dillon Byrne, Griffeen Valley TTC, who had notable wins in the U-18’s, was over taken by Art on top form in the final, with Richard Thompson, Laois TTC, finishing 3rd.
In the U-11 boys, our budding stars of the future, Gellert Moravscik, Fionn Hickey, Niks Husak, Josh Dempsey, Ijaz Jimmy and Thanh Nguyen all took home medals.
Thanks to all the coaches, parents, referees, umpires and volunteers for making it a great day and special thanks to all the players for the friendly spirit that these matches were played in. Remember, at the Inter-Provincials we will all be on the same team!
