Na Ning Crowned Leinster Champion 2017
Na Ning followed up his impressive win in the Leinster Ranking with a convincing triumph in the Leinster Championship sponsored by The Cartridge Expert at Palmerstown Community School on March 12.
Ning was pushed all the way in his semi-final by first seed Shozhao Li who showed great determination and skill in his challenge. After an early scare, however, Ning progressed to the final.
On the other half of the draw the big upsets took place, with Alan Pattison surprising Ryan Farrell with a determined display at the quarter final stage. The 3-2 match could have gone either way and there were many breathtaking top-top rallies throughout.
Equally impressive was in-form Dylan Grace who showed great maturity to see off Sam Logue and go forward to the semi-final against Alan. Dylan's experience saw him through that match and then it was on to challenge Ning in the final.
Ning opened brightly, but Dylan fought back to take the score to 2-1 in sets. Ning had to refer to Baihe, acting as his coach, for much needed advice on how to see out the match. This he duly did, but not without having to fight for each point. Dylan once again showed how he has become a hardened competitor this season.
Ning received the perpetual trophy generously sponsored by Celtic TT and presented by Baihe, recent Slovakian National Champion.
In the Plate, Andy Wu (Loop TTC) won a tight final against the much improved Ciarán O'Neill (Terenure TTC).
Thanks to all the referees, umpires and volunteers who helped to make this inaugural Leinster senior series become such a resounding success! See you all next year!
